In response to the World Environment Action Month with the message “Living in harmony with nature,” the Green Vietnam Fund, together with companions including VASS Assurance Corporation, Thang Long Youth Club (YDA), First News publisher, Yen Gao and students from many Universities in Ho Chi Minh City, etc. had visited, encouraged and offered gifts with more than 200 educational books on natural love, environmental protection, pet care and color painting, crayons, etc. for the children at Social Protection Center for Disadvantaged Children in Ho Chi Minh City (Christina Noble Children’s Foundation).
These organizations also provided free of charge air-conditioners, rice and cakes, candies, books, notebooks and coloring sets for children to take exam and draw pictures on environment. With the theme “Children love nature and make friends with the environment”, the program helps children at the Center to access simple yet useful knowledge about caring for trees, loving pets and not littering to the public.
Personally participating with children at this Center, The President Do Thi Kim Lien shared: “Today, they spend less time on exploring nature than watching television and computers. This is not good for their development, so it is necessary to guide them to love nature, observe and perceive the surrounding world. Educational experts believe that outdoor activities will increase the ability to pay attention and creative thinking. We can let them explore the natural world from an early age, such as encouraging them to play in flower gardens, parks, tending trees, visiting museums and zoos, etc. and as a result, they will gradually understand the values of nature and be aware of environment protection.
With presents and message sent to the Center, the children at Social Protection Center have opportunities to participate in social activities, and, together with community, protect the green environment with profound humanistic meanings.
The “Children love nature and make friends with the environment” program is one of many practical activities regularly organized by the Honorary Consul of South Africa in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam .and VASS Assurance Corporation in Ho Chi Minh City and other regions nationwide. Green Sunday, Clean houses to welcome Tet holidays, propaganda to protect rhinos, construction of kindergartens, bridges, supply of life jackets to students, planting trees, construction of compassionated houses, etc. are programs that are jointly supported and sponsored by local and foreign communities, businesses and organizations.
