In Truong Sa Islands and this rig, every soldier memorizes this “verdict”: Water is blood, vegetables are medicine”. Those six words were written on water tank, fence of vegetable garden and brightly painted.
But Storm No. 16 with “remarkably huge” waves having covered those vegetable gardens more precious than gold.
The soil in pots was saltly covered by seawater. The vegetable gardens were gone, and the land for vegetables was damaged.
Bringing hundreds of lands from the onshore area is very difficult task. Vegetables are planted by hard efforts to overcome rain and storms. Because “water is blood, vegetables are medicine”, vegetables are deemed as the health of soldiers.
The green color on vegetable beds in Truong Sa and DK1 rig is not only vegetables and medicines, but also the image of our beloved homeland and sacred country also.
Sympathized with the difficulties of soldiers thereon, the Green Vietnam Fund sponsored VND 100 million to help Truong Sa soldiers and DK1 rig rebuild green vegetable garden thanks to Tuoi Tre Newspaper. Specifically, this fund was used to buy seeds, land, fertilizer to restore vegetable gardens on rigs and other essential items, helping soldiers stabilize their lives and prepare for Tet holidays.
