Sponsoring 1.5 Billion Vietnam Dong In Building A Suspension Bridge Across Poko River

In the end of 2010, HCMC Police Newspaper along with Kon Tum Police successfully organized the Inauguration of Đăk Tung suspension bridge located at Đăk Tung village, Đăk Glei Town, Đăk Glei District, Kon Tum Province.

Đăk Tung suspension bridge is built across the Po Ko river succesfully connecting Đăk Tung and Đăk Trung villages. In the past, people had to use a makeshift wooden bridge in order to cross the river. Unfortunately, because of the historic flood in 2009, all the bridge systems were swept away. The daily transportation to cross the river is mainly wading or swinging back and forth which is very dangerous.

Sharing the difficulties of the local people here, Ms. Do Thi Kim Lien – Chairman of GVF – and her family had supported VND 1.5 billion through the Ho Chi Minh City Police Newspaper. Police Department of Kon Tum province is the investor of the project. Together with the local authority and the people of Dak Glei town, they had constructed a semi-permanent suspension bridge project to stop the swinging method and help the people in Dak Ang, Dak Nong and Dak Duc communes (Ngoc Hoi district) cross the reiver in a safe way.

Dak Tung suspension bridge is measured 81 meters of length, 1.5 meter of width with a tonnage of about 4 tons; all items are assembled and constructed with 100% iron. The contractor used solid reinforced concrete especially for the foundation piers on both sides of the bridge. The two sides of the bridge are connected with the iron cable system which support anti-vibration and ensure firmness for the bridge in order to help people and motorbikes with agricultural products and goods travelling in a safe, convenient and time saving way. This bridge serves an average of 50 to 100 people passing by daily.

Village Elder Adreo emotionally expressed: “My deepest gratitude to the local Authority, the Commissions, to the sponsor who help building a bridge for more than 900 people in the two villages to go to work and the children to go to school safely everyday. On behalf of the villagers, I am extremely grateful.”

Madame Do Thi Kim Lien, Chairman of GVF, shared: “Seeing the happiness in people make me so content to see a complete bridge. My family and I are very happy to help and share difficulties to people in the border highland”.

According to Madame Lien, charity work is also one of the many activities that has been carried out together with her business work. She said: “As a person working in the Insurance industry, I totally understand the pain of families in distress. This urges me to think of some ways to help people travelling safely and in this case is through the sponsorship of VND 1.5 billion to build the suspension bridge across the Po Ko river in Kon Tum province in 2010. I used to invest more than 3 billion VND to build preschools in Binh Phuoc in 2011 and Ha Nam in 2012; collaborate with the Traffic Safety Board of Dong Nai Province in donating 1,000 helmets to people with meritorious services for the Country… I think this is a contribution that will bring practical value to the community and society”.
